Two old foes meet again

Manchester United welcome Jurgen Klopp’s rampant Liverpool side to Old Trafford in a huge match on Sunday in the Premier League.

Manchester United form

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men performed one of their usual second half great escapes as they came back from 2-0 down on Wednesday night to beat Atalanta 3-2.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored a late winner for the second Champions League game running to quieten the talk surrounding Solskjaer for a few days but the clash against United’s bitter old rivals contains many interesting sub-plots.

United have shown they can turn up in big games against Solskjaer.

They are very dangerous when they are the underdogs and can hit teams on the counter attack after soaking up pressure.

Last season was the first time Klopp had been victorious at Old Trafford, while the hosts ended Liverpool’s winning run two seasons ago on their way to the title.

Liverpool form

Liverpool also came out on top in a dramatic game in the Champions League in midweek, winning 3-2 after surrendering an early two-goal lead against Atletico Madrid.

The match in midweek was not as important for Jurgen Klopp’s side, who will coast through to the knockout stages for yet another season.

The 2019/2020 champions are the only unbeaten side in the Premier League, having won five and drawn three.

They have drawn both games against their top six rivals, 1-1 against ten-man Chelsea and 2-2 against Man City.

The visitors were outplayed in the first half against City but responded brilliantly after the break to almost win.

The Egyptian king

Man of the moment, Mohamed Salah, scored another two goals in midweek and is in arguably the form of his career at the moment.

He has scored seven league goals this season as well as having assists to his name.

Stats

Liverpool have scored at least twice in all but one of their 12 games in all competitions this season.

Man United have kept just one clean sheet in their past 20 games.

Last season was the first time Klopp had been victorious at Old Trafford, while the hosts ended Liverpool’s winning run two seasons ago on their way to the title.
