River Plate in title winning form

A Gustavo Canto own goal was enough for River Plate to win their fifth consecutive game in the Argentinian Primera Division and remain top of the table after they beat Banfield 1-0.

Banfield goalkeeper Facundo Altamirano spilled a long shot and Federico Girotti was on hand to turn past the goalkeeper and direct the ball goalwards. Canto tried to clear the ball off the line but he could only help to force the ball into the net.

Talleres Cordoba stay in touch

Talleres Cordoba are only a point behind River Plate after beating Atletico Tucuman 2-0.

Alexander Medina’s side were knocked off the top of the table following their 3-0 defeat to Defensa y Justicia last weekend but they responded with goals from Nahuel Tenaglia and Michael Santos in the final 20 minutes.

Ayovi saves Estudiantes’ skin but point not enough

Jaime Ayovi salvaged a point for Estudiantes with a 96th minute equaliser as his side drew for the third game running to fall behind the top two in the table.

They rose to third in the table with the point after Lanus were beaten for the third time in four games but Estudiantes are now seven points behind River Plate after their 2-2 draw.
